The Doncaster Youth Jazz Orchestra

The Doncaster Youth Jazz Orchestra is the third level ensemble. This band specialises in re-creating the 'Music of the Masters', e.g. Ellington, Basie, Herman, Rich, etc — alongside the challenging charts of today's writers such as Bob Florence, Tom Kubis, Matt Catingub, Bob Mintzer — plus original orchestrations from some of the finest composers in the UK. Variety of style and programme balance is strived for via the musical intricacies of swing, blues, ballads, latin, rock, fusion and straight-ahead jazz.

Over the years, national recognition has resulted in invitations to perform at many prestigious events throughout the UK and Europe. In addition to jazz club and concert performances locally, our musicians have enthralled audiences at London's Royal Festival Hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Barbican Centre. The various DYJO line-ups of particular years have performed at Prom concerts on a record 14 occasions at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

In July 2011, DYJO receieved the Yamaha Award for Outstanding Performance at the National Festival of Music for Youth.
