The Doncaster Youth Jazz Orchestra (DYJO) is the senior youth ensemble within the Association. This orchestra specialises
in re-creating the 'Music of the Masters' e.g. Ellington, Basie, Herman, Rich, etc - alongside the challenging charts of today's
professional big bands in the USA such as Bob Florence, Tom Kubis, Matt Catingub, Bob Mintzer, plus original orchestrations from some
of the finest jazz composers in the UK. Variety of style and programme balance is strived for via the musical intricacies of swing, blues,
ballads, latin, rock, fusion and straight-ahead jazz.
National recognition has resulted in invitations to perform at many prestigious events. In addition to jazz club and concert performances
locally, the DYJO have enthralled audiences at London's Royal Festival Hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Barbican Centre; not to mention
a record 13 appearances at the Royal Albert Hall. Doncaster's talented musicians have also received high praise and standing ovations in Russia,
Poland, Germany, Switzerland, France and the USA.
These young jazz musicians have enjoyed 'royal recognition' by performing at Buckingham Palace and at two royal celebrations at Windsor Castle.
They have also recorded for the BBC as a result of being voted Big Band of the Year.
This dedicated group of Yorkshire musicians (age range 18-25) is equally 'at home' working with and accompanying jazz celebrities in concert.
Past guests have included Bob Florence, Ronnie Scott, Al Gray, Illinois Jacquet, Kenny Baker, Ronnie Ross, Don Lusher, Tommy Whittle, Danny Moss, etc.
