Cultural exchanges form an integral part of the Doncaster Youth Jazz Association’s programme of personal and musical development.
In addition to a wide range of musical opportunities, regular concert performances and occasional visits to professional events, DYJA is actively involved in collaborative high-profile music exchange projects with two European partner groups. Week-long exchange projects have taken place each year (without break) since 1994.
DYJA’s young people enjoy the social, cultural and linguistic benefits of two well established exchange programmes with Limonest in the Rhone region of France and with Herten in the Westphalia region of Germany.
These successful cultural exchanges between Doncaster, France and Germany in the last 25 years have on occasion received European Dimension Awards.
As a result of the success of cultural exchange participation with European partners, many of our members, past and present, have continued to develop lasting and meaningful friendships, as well as on-going work and educational opportunities.
This year’s programme will be the 24th Anniversary of DYJA’s long-standing friendship with the Erich-Klausener School (EKS) in Herten Germany. The EKS Big Swing Band (directed by Thomas Vennes) will tour in local schools, performing joint concerts, workshops and visiting places of interest in the Doncaster region.
